Fall Pastors' Conference

On behalf of the SWD Conference Planning Committee, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the 2024 Fall Pastor's Conference scheduled for October 21-23 at Central Wisconsin Convention+Expo Center in Rothschild under the theme: The Importance of the Brotherhood. This is a joint conference with our brothers in North Wisconsin District.

Our speakers are Rev. David Buchs, pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fairhaven, MN, Rev. Dan Gilbert (retired), serving as campus pastor for Concordia Seminary St. Louis, and Rev. Richard Ramirez, pastor of Dr. Martin Luther Church, Chicago, IL.

Pr. Buchs presentation is entitled: "Love the Brotherhood" (1 Pet. 2:17) His presentation will first explore the fact that while we are called to "act like men" (1 Cor. 16:13), mature manhood is not solitary. To the contrary, the cultivation of sound masculinity calls for brotherhood. Secondly, he will reflect on how pastors are particularly called to brotherhood. Thirdly, he will discuss how pastors are responsible as fathers and shepherds of their congregations to provide an example and encouragement towards mature manhood within the parish.

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Walkout, Pr. Gilbert and Pr. Ramirez will be giving us an opportunity to reflect upon this momentous affair in the life of our Synod and its brotherhood. Instead of reviewing the basics of the conflict with which most of us are familiar, each presenter will be reflecting on their experiences as seminary students in the wake of this historic event. Pr. Gilbert was a first-year seminarian at the time of the Walkout and experienced Concordia—St. Louis in its aftermath. Though not a seminarian at the time of the Walkout, Pr. Ramirez attended Seminex during its earliest years in St. Louis, subsequently serving first in the AELC, and then the ELCA, before returning to the Missouri Synod.

The conference will officially begin on Monday, October 21 with our opening Divine Service at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church (709 N 6th St in Wausau, WI) at 1:00pm. SWD President, the Rev. Eric Skovgaard, will be the Preacher. Please make every effort to attend!
