Disaster Relief Trips — Hurricane Sally

The South Wisconsin District’s office of Mission & Mercy will be sending teams of volunteers to Pensacola, Florida in response to Hurricane Sally.

Prayers and monetary gifts are needed to support the recovery efforts in Florida and Louisiana. One hundred percent of gifts received will be used to assist the region and our mercy and disaster response / recovery efforts. Volunteer teams will travel together by van and stay at Grace Lutheran Church in Pensacola, Florida. Work will include site preparation, drywall installation, home restoration, and site clean-up.

  • Registration is on a first come basis as space is limited.
  • All participants must register individually and be 18 years or older.
  • Each registrant must be willing and able to do manual labor for an extended period of time.
  • The cost is $100 per volunteer to offset some of the costs of travel, lodging, and a required background check.
  • The background check and signed volunteer liability release form are required and will be requested via email to confirmed, paid registrants.

Specific Trip Information:

Shower Facilities: Provided (gymnasium), but bring your own towel and toiletries.
Laundry: Available
Accommodations: Hotel during travel (Econo Lodge) and general common space at Grace Lutheran in Pensacola with limited privacy; please bring an air mattress and bedding.
Meals: Teams will prepare daily meals (food provided), but meals while traveling will be your responsibility.

COVID-19 Considerations

Volunteers will be travelling by commercial vans for extended periods of time. While in the vehicles, all volunteers will be required to wear masks for the comfort and safety of those around them. Temperatures will be taken daily and a COVID protocol has been developed. Social distancing will be observed during work, devotions, meals, and rest periods. Disinfectants and hand sanitizer will be made available to volunteers. Please bring your own masks to be worn during transportation (but disposable masks for the work site will be provided).
