April 16-18 – Spring Pastors Conference

Dear Brothers in the Ministry,

As we continue in the season of Lent with an eye on the Passion of our Lord and Savior, it is our prayer for each of you that God would grant you His peace and joy in all your all your preparations as we approach the Easter celebrations!

On behalf of the Conference Planning Committee, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the 2018 Spring Pastors Conference: Staying Faithful in a Faith-less World.  Scheduled for April 16th – 18th.  The venue for this year’s event will be the Holiday Inn in Manitowoc.  Please make reservations by calling #920-682-6000 or book online at www.holidayinn.com/manitowocwi and mention “SWD Pastor’s Conference” when making the reservation to get the reduced rate of $96.00.  Rooms must be reserved by March 18th, 2018.

Our speakers for this year’s conference will be Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz of the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty and former speaker of the Lutheran Hour Ministries.  Drawing on his experiences in both the religious and political realms, as well as years of experiences in urban ministries; Dr. Seltz will intersect our unchanging faith with our ever changing culture in a session titled, “Christian Confidence when Worldviews Collide.”  In subsequent sessions on, “Kingdom Engagement for Civility and Mission,” he will help us to apply our two kingdom’s theology so that our political liberties can be put to work in order to protect our eternal liberties.

Also joining us will be Officer Tom Meverden of the Capital Police Department.  Tom has 22 years of law enforcement experience and has served as a division commander, SWAT operator, and Lead Crisis Negotiator.  In his session, Tom will share his experiences as an early responder to the Oak Creek Sikh temple shooting and will discuss how to create a safe worship space while not sacrificing a welcoming environment.  You will learn what your legal and moral requirements are in protecting your congregation. You will also receive information on the current state of religious based threats, how to assess your risk, and how to create the best mitigation strategies.

Women’s sessions will be led by Dr. Susan Mobley of Concordia University Wisconsin, who will talk about the life of Katie Luther as a pastor’s wife.  We will also get creative with Bible Journaling.  Childcare is provided during those sessions. The women’s sessions will be sponsored by Concordia University-Wisconsin.

If you use the “fill in” Registration Form, open it in “Acrobat” format if given the option.

Please feel free to contact any of the conference planning members listed below if you have any questions.  God’s continued blessings to all of you.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

In Him,
