It is highly likely that your classroom has at least one child with “sensory dysfunction”, the over- or under- sensitivity of one or more of a person’s senses. By recognizing the signs and symptoms of these neurological inefficiencies, a teacher may be able to help a child compensate for the sensory misinformation. This presentation will help educators to recognize and understand DSI, and will give some tips for dealing with students who have sensory issues.

There are many basic spelling rules that all teachers should know, and every student should be taught. If you want to be able to teach your students how to decode and spell words easier, this is the workshop for you! Participants in this session will learn the spelling rules for spelling with C, K, CK, as well as several other highly regular spelling rules for students as young as 1st grade.

D-11 “Dealing Effectively with Sensory Dysfunction” by Cindy Bossaller
It is highly likely that your classroom has at least one child with “sensory dysfunction”, the over- or under- sensitivity of one or more of a person’s senses. By recognizing the signs and symptoms of these neurological inefficiencies, a teacher may be able to help a child compensate for the sensory misinformation. This presentation will help educators to recognize and understand DSI, and will give some tips for dealing with students who have sensory issues.

E-3 “A Stations Approach to Kindergarten Reading” by Darlene Larson
Before students learn to read, they need to be fully immersed in multi-sensory activities to learn the letters of the alphabet, explore and compare letter sounds, and learn crucial phonemic awareness skills such as segmenting and blending sounds. Participants in this session will learn how to use a small group stations approach to teach all these skills and more. They will learn the organizational plan, as well as the techniques, games, and activities to help them teach crucial pre-reading skills in a preschool or kindergarten classroom.
