OFFICE OF SECRETARY
South Wisconsin District of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod
Requirements to Hold Office
The Secretary must be an ordained minister of religion on the roster of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the South Wisconsin District. He must also be a member of a member congregation of the South Wisconsin District upon assuming office and during the course of his tenure.
Meetings
The Secretary meets with the following board and committees:
- Board of Directors – which meets on the second Thursdays of February, May, August, and November (special meetings may be called when necessary
- Committee on Constitutional Matters – which meets as scheduled about four times annually (special meetings may be called when necessary);
- Committee on Convention Nominations – which begins meeting about nine months prior to the District Convention (number of meetings are determined by the committee); and
- Convention Committee - which begins to meet about six months prior to the District Convention.
Ex-Officio Positions
The Secretary is, by virtue of his office (ex-officio),
- secretary and member of the 1) Board of Directors and 2) Committee on Constitutional Matters and 3) Convention Committee;
- secretary of the District Convention;
- corporation Secretary of the District; and
- an advisory member of the Committee on Convention Nominations
Responsibilities
The Secretary shall
- convene the first meeting of the Committee on Convention Nominations;
- certify all voting and advisory delegates to the conventions of the District and Synod;
- select reconcilers according to Synod Bylaw 8.13b.;
- preserve the signatures of new member congregations to the Synod’s Constitution;
- prepare and publish the minutes, resolutions and official actions of all meetings of the District and the District Board of Directors as soon as possible after the conclusion of a meeting; and perform such other duties as are incidental to this office and as are assigned to him by resolution of the District or Synod and prescribed by the bylaws (District Bylaw 1.38).
