Are you a coach of a grade school athletic team? Congratulations! Chances are, if you were asked to be a coach, it is because you are seen as a dependable, responsible, and dedicated man or woman of God. Coaching carries with it tremendous ministry opportunities, and many coaches are looking for guidance and assistance on how they can be better equipped to be ambassadors for Christ while in the role of coach.
In previous years, Trinity-Freistadt (Mequon) presented an evening workshop for coaches that introduced strategies and ideas for making the coaching experience an opportunity for Christian witness and the of mentoring young athletes. Trinity will hold another such workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
Trinity is hosting its 2008 Christian Coaching Clinic with guest speaker Rev. Wayne Rasmussen—a pastor at Hales Corners Lutheran Church and a former basketball coach at both Concordia University Wisconsin and Concordia University Nebraska. Rasmussen will share his conviction of seeing athletics as an opportunity for ministry. He himself possesses qualities of Christian mentoring that we strive to exemplify in athletic programs.
Additionally, Mrs. Deb Yahr will be on hand to share her expertise in the area of athletic training with coaches and parents. With proper technique and a commitment to stretching exercises, the risk of injury is greatly diminished, and she will share easy-to-follow routines for our student athletes.
This is an entirely free event. Please RSVP for this event by contacting Robert Anderson, Trinity's athletic director, by calling (262) 242-2045, or e-mailing him at
banderson@trinityfreistadt.com.
