100,000th Braille book printed at Immanuel, Sheboygan
Wednesday, June 18, 2008 :: 216 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Church news, Other organizations ::

One page at a time, Braille books have been produced at Lutheran Braille Work (LBW) Center #100 located at Immanuel, Sheboygan. One page at a time, from March 27, 1977, through June 17, 2008, they have produced 100,000 Braille books bringing the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ to individuals who are blind and vision impaired. Thousands of blind people throughout the United States and in many countries worldwide have read books "printed" at LBW #100.

LBW #100 has been blessed with faithful volunteers who have given their time to be part of this mission. Currently there are 65 volunteers representing 11 congregations in Sheboygan, Kohler and Howards Grove, producing Braille copies of II Kings and the Gospel of John, part of the 37-volume complete Braille Bible distributed by Lutheran Braille Workers. Most of the volunteers work on one of the five teams that meet each week to produce the Braille books and a sixth team meets once a month to package the books for shipment and take them to the post office.

Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc. is in its 65th year of "Bringing Christ to Those in Darkness." Braille and large print materials are offered without charge, with an invitation to contribute as able. Charitable giving is the only means of support for this ministry to the blind.
