Kohl Teacher Fellowship Program Guidelines

The Kohl Teacher Fellowship program recognizes and supports teaching excellence and innovation. The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation’s goal is to support teachers in pursuit of their unrealized goals for their classrooms or professional development. Annually, the Foundation awards 100 Wisconsin teachers with $1,000 Kohl Fellowship grants, and each Kohl Fellowship recipient's school receives a matching $1,000 grant. Recipients' professional accomplishments are celebrated at a recognition luncheon in the spring.

To be eligible to compete for a fellowship, teachers must be nominated by students, parents, other teachers, community members or administrators.  All preK-12 classroom teachers who plan to continue teaching in their current capacity during the 2011-12 school year are eligible. Special services teachers are also eligible to be nominated for a fellowship. Nominees in this category must have daily face-to-face contact with students. Some examples of teachers eligible for recognition in special services include: special education teachers, gifted and talented teachers (or other exceptional needs), reading resource teachers, speech therapists, guidance counselors, and instructional media personnel.

Because the programs purpose is to recognize the contributions of classroom teachers, staff members whose assignments are administrative or supervisory are not eligible. Previous fellowship recipients are ineligible.

Nomination forms must be submitted to Mark L'Heureux by Friday, September 30, 2011.  Word   PDF
