2007-2008 Babas for Babies in Bulgaria
This is a program of Helping Hands for Eastern Europe, a ministry of Christ, Abbotsford, WI (North Wisconsin District), which is supported by Peace, Sussex. They support orphanages, nursing homes and hospitals in Bulgaria. In 2005, the project helped to provide heat, food, clothes, medicine—and most importantly the Gospel—for six orphanages and four nursing homes in western Bulgaria. Their brochure states, “Because the children in the institutions need more love and attention than the staff can provide, we began a program called ‘Babas for Babies.’ Our ‘Babas for Babies’ program pays older women from the surrounding villages to visit the orphanages and work with the children. Such contact helps to stimulate proper mental and physical development. It also provides much needed emotional care and friendship for the children. We plan to expand similar care to the nursing home residents.” This was the 2005 Hearts for Jesus campaign for the North Wisconsin District.
