| SWD President John Wille (left) and CNH President Bob Newton |
About 90 pastors gathered at the District office on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, from 8-10 a.m. for Rev. Dr. Bob Newton's presentation on "Engaging the Post-Church Culture."
Key to Newton's passionate presentation was the challenge of holding one another accountable to reach the lost. The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is rightly very conscientious in holding us accountable in caring for the found, but do we have similar standards in holding each other accountable in seeking the lost? Newton highlighted the importance of connecting to key leaders among the lost. He applied principles for connecting to these leaders which he learned in the foreign field while serving as a missionary in the Philippines. A major challenge in making these connections is being clear that there is no doubt that we represent and are faithful disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and we will not compromise this discipleship. Newton's presentation was interspersed with engaged and challenging dialogue with those in attendance.
