The South Wisconsin District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
Thursday, March 6, 2008
In action, the board:
- approved the minutes of the Nov. 8, 2007, meeting of the SWD board of directors
- approved the amended constitutions/bylaws of Beautiful Savior, Waukesha; St. John, New Fane; Trinity, Beloit; and Trinity, Menasha
- accepted the revised proposed 2008 Camp LuWiSoMo budget
- accepted the SWD "Suggested Salary Schedule" for 2008-09
- ratified the finance committee rejection of New Hope's (Neenah), request for funding
- set the date for the May board meeting to May 15
- assigned Debra Novak as the registered agent for the South Wisconsin District
- appointed Rev. William Wagner to Camp LuWiSoMo board to fill a vacancy on the board
The board discussed:
- The role and place of Camp LuWiSoMo within the overall mission and ministry of the South Wisconsin District
The board received reports from:
- President Wille highlighting:
- Candidate call status
- Recent president’s partnership breakfast
- Upcoming synodical theological convocation on Synod structure – SWD may send 1 pastor, 1 commissioned, 1 lay representative
- New SWD brochure and strategic plan
- Several vacancies on the Camp board – chair has resigned
- A request for hiring a development individual for SWD with assistance of Thrivent grant which has already been received
- The fact that of $2.5 million unrestricted funds received by the District, personnel costs account for $1.8 million. Two subsidized positions will need to be eliminated to maintain a balanced budget
- Rev. Dan McMiller highlighting:
- Metro Milwaukee Lutheran Mission Society
- Asian ministry being carried out in conjunction with Elm Grove and C.A.M.E.
- Hispanic music ministry
- Urban vision narrative
- Hispanic ministry being carried on through Primera Iglesia
- Mission Hill, Waunakee, is working on business plan that should be done by the end of the month
- New deaf mission outreach being carried out in Town Scott
- Campus ministry
- Situation at Bethany, Milwaukee, Pastors Ikanih and Boeck are working together and the situation at Bethany is improving
- Rev. Fred Bischoff presented a report prepared by Chaplain Gary Ruckman, Milwaukee County House of Corrections.
- Rev. Larry Myers spoke of the upcoming visit/presentation by Rev. Wilhelm Torgerson from Wittenberg, and his availability to speak about ILC Center at Wittenberg
- Received written reports from Gary Janetzke and Jim Farrelly
- Debra Novak's report of congregational remittances and pledges, and preliminary statement of activities along with the Camp LuWiSoMo finances
- Tim Dittloff presented the printed 12/31/07 and 1/31/08 reports of LCEF and the report of stewardship activities highlighting:
- Increase in net assets
- $4.3 million funds available for allocation (12/31/07); $4.6 million (1/31/08)
- SWD has the 5th largest total net assets for Synod
