There is a major need for the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Hispanic communities of southern Wisconsin. Traditionally they are a religious people, but some Hispanic cultural elements include many teachings contrary to Scripture. Recently, Rev. Germán Novelli has come to the South Wisconsin District-LCMS. Novelli, a native of Venezuela, is serving at St. Martini Lutheran School at 6th and Scott Streets in Milwaukee where 195 children have Spanish as their first language. He teaches the seventh and eighth grade students Spanish grammar. Their once-a-month “Family Night” has also become a popular event where Pastor Novelli has a devotion along with a meal and fellowship for the Hispanic membership and friends.
On Saturday nights Pastor Novelli also holds a Spanish Bible study at Oklahoma Avenue Lutheran Church, also in Milwaukee, where Rev. Tim Sims is pastor. Sims and Novelli are discussing the possibility of holding an additional worship service there for the Hispanic community.
