In January of 2008 the District entered into a partnership with Bethany Lutheran Church which enables Pastor Christian Ikanih to serve Bethany while also serving the African Immigrant community a Missionary at Large. Bethany Lutheran has effectively reached out to many souls in the immediate neighborhood. Food pantry services are provided, as well as a Wednesday “soup kitchen”. Youth programs are also offered every Saturday. Volunteers and donations are needed to assist with the many social needs in a very challenging community. Many adults and youth are joining the congregation through Baptism and Confirmation. Every year Pastor Ikanih holds a prayer breakfast and opens the event to community leaders who have responded with their presence, words of encouragement and helpful dialogue with concerned families. Pastor Ikanih is very connected to the people in the immediate neighborhood, and has been blessed in developing a relationship of trust that is laying a foundation for future ministry opportunities.
