Rev. Dan McMiller, working in conjunction with the Hispanic task force, Pastor Pedro Lopez of Primera Iglesia in Racine and pre-DELTO student George Lessmann, is developing a ministry that will engage high risk Hispanic youth in instrumental music instruction. This instruction will focus on Latino style instruments and music that is properly blended with hymnology and music appropriate for worship services. This follows a very exciting model presently a part of an LCMS Hispanic ministry in El Paso, Texas: Mariachi San Pablo of the YSLETA Mission. A gift from Brookfield Lutheran Church has provided a part-time music position at Primera Iglesia, served by a Concordia University—Chicago Hispanic music major, Lizette Barrientos. With new gifts and grant monies the vision is to expand this music ministry to other areas where our District is working in Hispanic outreach.
