Regional outreach idea exchanges - Held 3 or 4 times each winter in different regions of the District, these exchanges are designed to allow congregational evangelism teams to share ideas and resources for more effective outreach of the Good News.
Annual pastors pre-Lent retreat gives pastors sermonic studies, liturgies, children's object lessons and outreach helps and suggestions for use during Lent and Holy Week. This event is held the second Monday and Tuesday of January in Manitowoc.

S.O.S. Center puts out an S.O.S. for volunteers
Struggle of Survival / Strength of Savior—these are the defining words that the S.O.S. Center lives by and proclaims to the hurting and the needy of Milwaukee. The S.O.S. Center is a loving arm of the LCMS in the South Wisconsin District, providing many services to adults and children, including literacy services, adult basic education, ESL classes, after school tutoring, sewing classes, computer lab, and Bible study. Located in the near west side, it serves the immediate community as well as people from all over the city.
Now, the S.O.S. Center is sending out an S.O.S. of its own. So many individuals and families are coming to them for help—now they need your help! If you cannot help with  your time, please consider helping with financial assistance. The Center can use your dollars as well as your time, as the economy is hitting the families they serve very hard.

Volunteer opportunities
- English as a second language (ESL) teacher. If you have a good command of the English language, and a heart for those who don’t, please give this a try. Classes start out at an elementary level and are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 4 to 6 p.m.
- Adult basic education classes. If you have a high school diploma and can read and write at least at this level, you are qualified to use the Laubach program to teach an elementary level of basic skills. Class times are held at the same time as the ESL classes.
- After school program. Not all parents are able to help their children with homework, so many children come to the S.O.S. Center for assistance after school. Help is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. If you liked homework and you love kids, this is your opportunity to help.
- Bible study. This program is part of the Spiritual Foundation curriculum, needing the assistance of LCMS pastors, teachers or DELTO students who would be willing to commit Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- General education development (GED) preparation. If you have a college level education, you are qualified to help those who need a high school diploma to get their GED certificate, and thereby get a better job. This program is waiting for you so that it can get started. Software programs are coming soon!
Please give the above your prayerful consideration and use your talents, or your offerings, to help those who desperately need to help themselves. When they see that others care for them, they will become fertile ground for the seeds of the Gospel. We can water the seeds; God will harvest the fields!
