 President's welcome

Welcome to the South Wisconsin District website! Our mission in South Wisconsin is to "connect, resource, and equip God’s people for bold witness to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus."

Whether you are looking for specific information or merely surfing the web, we pray that you are blessed by your time with us on this site.

There are a couple of Scripture passages that I encourage you to think about as you read through the information on this website. They are passages that define who we are as Missouri Synod Lutherans:

  • 1 Peter 2:9, "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
  • Philippians 1:4-6, "In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
  • Jude 1:22-23, "Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them."

May our Lord bless you with his forgiveness and with opportunities for "bold witness to the Gospel!"

Rev. John C. Wille, President
South Wisconsin District—LCMS

"Fun in the sun": Not your typical spring break

When you think of college students in Mexico on spring break what images come to mind? You probably picture students having fun and soaking up the sun on the beach. Well a group of eight college students, two recent graduates and two staff people from Madison’s Calvary Chapel campus ministry went to Mexico for spring break. It was anything but a typical vacation. We went on a mission trip to Saltillo, Mexico. The purpose of the trip was to help one of the local churches with some painting and VBS. (Click the read more link for a photo gallery.)

Menomonee Falls church offers free school tuition

Rev. Tim Lamkin at Zion, Menomonee Falls, where free tuition to nonmembers is being offered to increase school enrollment and fulfill the church's mission.
"[I]n an effort to stem a steady decline in enrollment and to fulfill what they see as a primary mission of their church, [Menomonee Falls]church members overwhelmingly voted this month to let families send their children to Zion Lutheran School for free whether they are members of the church or not.

"'We wanted to do something to stimulate some enthusiasm and excitement for enrollment,' said Zion Pastor Tim Lamkin, who took over leadership of the 500-member church last summer. 'We're stepping out in faith. It's part of our mission and our ministry'" (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).  Read more
